This article delves into the application of chemical weapons in military history and the challenges they bring,while also analyzing in detail the strategies and technologies adopted to prevent and respond to the threat of chemical weapons.Chemical weapons,with their unique killing methods and cruel consequences,were once known as"the chaos of the masses"on the military stage.However,with the development of science and technology and the joint efforts of the international community,a series of protective measures and response strategies have gradually taken shape,which can be seen as"the shield of demon subduing".This article reviews the history and applications of chemical weapons,revealing their destructive and humanitarian crises in warfare.Then,it elaborates on how the international community restricts and prohibits the use of chemical weapons through laws and regulations and international conventions,especially the signing and implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.The shield of demon subduing mainly consists of two aspects:first,the development of protective technology and equipment,including personal protective equipment,collective protective facilities,and the improvement of medical treatment systems;second,innovation in detection and destruction technology,including rapid detection technology for chemical warfare agents,destruction technology for chemical weapon inventories,and capacity building to respond to chemical terrorism.Despite significant achievements in the prohibition and prevention of chemical weapons,the international community still faces many challenges.The risks of non-state actors acquiring and using chemical weapons,the potential misuse of chemical industry and civilian chemicals,and the potential new chemical threats brought about by technological progress all require sustained attention and cooperation from the international community to address.Through comprehensive research on chemical weapons and their protection,we hope to raise people's awareness of this issue and promote further cooperation and efforts of the international community in the prohibition and prevention of chemical weapons.Only by combining science and technology with international regulations to build a solid and multifaceted"shield of demon subduing"can humanity effectively respond to the threat of chemical weapons and maintain world peace and security.
