The lack of physiological stimulation of alveolar bone leads to gradual absorption and atrophy and the reduction of the height and width of alveolar bone following tooth extraction,which results in insufficient bone mass and increases the difficulty of future prosthodontic treatment.Therefore,how to preserve bone mass and minimize alveolar bone resorption is the focus of current research.Methods of alveolar bone preservation and application of related biomaterials are important treatments to slow down alveolar bone resorption following tooth extraction.This paper reviews the research progress in methods and related biomaterials of alveolar bone preservation,providing reference for the preservation of alveolar bone after tooth extraction in clinical work,so as to obtain sufficient bone mass and provide good conditions for later implant restoration.
