Effect of probiotics and its influence on serum immune level and amino acid metabolism in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Objective To evaluate the effect of probiotics and its influence on serum immune level and amino acid metabolism in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods In this study,80 elderly COPD patients admitted to the 980th Hospital of Chinese People's Liberation Army Joint Logistic Support Force from January 2020 to January 2022 were recruited and divided into conventional treatment group and combined treatment group(taking probiotics in addition to conventional treatment)by random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The course of treatment was two weeks.Modified Medical Research Council(mMRC)and COPD assessment test(CAT)scores were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin(IL)-6,and IL-8 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The amino acid metabolism of the two groups before and after treatment was detected by liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer. Results After treatment,CAT,mMRC scores, and TNF-α,IL-6,IL-8,tryptophan,tyrosine levels in both groups were lower than those before treatment, while leucine, proline, alanine, and serine levels were higher than those before treatment,CAT,mMRC scores, and TNF-α,IL-6,IL-8,tryptophan,tyrosine levels in combined treatment group were lower than those in conventional treatment group, while leucine, proline, alanine, serine levels were higher than those in conventional treatment group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Combined treatment with probiotics can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of elderly patients with COPD,and has positive effects on their immune level and amino acid metabolism, which may be an effective strategy for the treatment of elderly patients with COPD.
