The pomen, equivalent to the anus in modern medicine,is one of the important organs of the human body, and mainly responsible for excretion of waste material. The spleen is the basis of life activities for human beings after birth, and the source of converting food into qi and blood. It serves the muscle and has the functions of regulating blood, transporting and converting nutrients, transporting and converting water and liquids, and ascending lucidity and descending turbidity, which are connected with the development, operation, maintenance, and repair of the pomen. If the spleen is healthy, the pomen can normally open and close, contract and relax, and the waste material can be excreted. However,if the spleen is not healthy, the pomen will not be moisturized enough and will be loose,so that exogenous evils will invade the body and cause various diseases. This paper combines classical traditional Chinese medicine books and clinical research in traditional Chinese medicine and summarizes the connotation and clinical significance that"spleen nourishing pomen"with an attempt to illustrate the significance of this theory in modern clinical practice.
