Research progress on salivary biomarkers in predicting early childhood caries
Early childhood caries is a disease with chronic dysbiosis of the oral microbiota, and it is also the most prevalent bacterial infectious disease in children. The progression of early childhood caries can lead to dental pulp infection and even systemic diseases, severely affecting the oral health and overall health of children. Therefore, the risk assessment and prediction of early childhood caries play a crucial role in the accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, reducing the burden on children's families, and promoting children's physical and mental health. This review summarizes the research progress of biomarkers such as salivary microbiota, salivary proteins, salivary electrolytes, and salivary metabolomics for predicting dental caries in early children, and on this basis, offers perspectives for the future study.
