Research progress of neutrophil extracellular traps in pulmonary diseases
Neutrophil extracellular traps(NETs)is a kind of chromatin fibrous network structure which is generated after neutrophil loses its inner membrane after stimulation.Originally discovered as a second antimicrobial mechanism of neutrophils,it was thought to complete the antibacterial action of neutrophils. However,a growing body of researches have shown that overproduction of NETs leads to an inflammatory reaction that plays an important role in many lung diseases and is strongly associated with disease severity.Targeted up-regulation,down-regulation,destruction or protection of NETs that have already formed may become new therapies for respiratory diseases in the future. This article reviews the formation of NETs and its effect on pulmonary diseases, and discusses the strategies of drug treatment.
