Professor Xia Zhongyuan's experience in treating thyroid diseases based on the circulation of neck meridians
In recent years, the incidence of thyroid diseases has significantly increased. The thyroid is located at the convergence of the neck meridians, with its surrounding anatomical structures being relatively complex and closely related to multiple meridians. In terms of pathogenesis, the hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are closely associated with the yangming meridian and shaoyin meridian, respectively.Thyroid nodules are related to the shaoyang meridian and jueyin meridian, and the differentiation and treatment of meridians are a new train of thought.Professor Xia Zhongyuan is adept at treating different thyroid diseases by differentiation and treatment of meridians, with significant effects. The treatment of hyper-thyroidism mainly focuses on the yangming meridian;the treatment of hypothyroidism primarily focuses on the hand and foot shaoyin meridians, supplementing qi and warming yang;the treatment of thyroid nodules starts from the shaoyang meridian and jueyin meridian, regulating emotions, and resolving qi stasis. For the water and fluid metabolism imbalance caused by thyroid diseases, the focus is primarily on the taiyang meridian, promoting meridian flow and water metabolism.Emphasizing the combination of zang-fu differentiation and meridian differentiation, and considering both internal and external treatments in clinical practice, often yields better results.
