Cognitive status of lymphoma patients undergoing chemotherapy and its impact on symptom distress
Objective To investigate the cognitive status of lymphoma patients undergoing chemotherapy and explore its impact on symptom distress. Methods This study was a cross-sectional survey, involving 106 patients with lymphoma undergoing chemotherapy in West China Hospital,Sichuan University from January 2020 to December 2022.The M.D.Anderson symptom inventory(MDASI)was used to evaluate the level of symptom distress in patients with lymphoma. The disease cognition questionnaire was used to evaluate the disease cognition status of patients, and the baseline data were designed to fill in the table and record the data needed for the study. The effect of disease cognition level on symptom distress in patients with lymphoma chemotherapy was analyzed. Results A total of 106 questionnaires were distributed, and 104 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective recovery rate of 98.11%.The MDASI score of 104 lymphoma chemotherapy patients was(77.58±7.65)points.The total score of the disease cognition questionnaire for lymphoma patients was(25.86±4.22)points,of which 10 cases were good, accounting for 9.62%;65 cases were qualified, accounting for 62.50%;and 29 poor cases, accounting for 27.88%,the overall level of disease cognition was average.Lymphoma chemotherapy patients with poor disease cognition, education level of junior high school and below, low social support, and strong sense of shame had higher MDASI scores(P<0.05).Through multiple linear regression analysis, the results showed that poor disease cognition(X1),low education level(X2),low social support(X3),and strong sense of shame(X4)were the influencing factors for the severity of disease distress in lymphoma chemotherapy patients(P<0.05).The equation was obtained:Y=73.623+12.158X1+11.748X2+12.563X3+12.824X4.The regression model had an F-value of 34.984,an R2 of 0.586,and an adjusted R2 of 0.569.Conclusion The disease cognition level of lymphoma chemotherapy patients is average, and the disease cognition level of patients is a influencing factor for symptom distress.Low cognition levels will exacerbate the degree of disease distress.
