Study on residents'preference of Chinese medicine service utilization based on discrete choice experiment
Objective To understand the residents'preference for utilization of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)services and to provide reference for improving the utilization rate of TCM services. Methods A questionnaire was designed based on the discrete choice experimental method.A multistage stratified random sampling used to survey residents of three prefecture-level cities,Taiyuan,Linfen, and Yangquan in Shanxi Province from January to March 2023.The conditional logit model was used to analyze the residents'preference for TCM service utilization and to predict the residents'willingness to utilize TCM services under different scenarios. Results A total of 635 valid questionnaires were collected.Distance to medical care, type of doctor, time of TCM consultation, status of TCM service programs, and health insurance reimbursement measures affected residents'preferences for TCM service utilization(P<0.05).The results of the relative importance of each attribute showed that the factors of TCM services valued by residents,in descending order were the distance to medical care(33.9%),the type of doctor(32.6%),the health insurance reimbursement measures(17.4%),the status of TCM service programs(8.3%),and the time of TCM consultation(7.8%).The most significant factor for residents without chronic disease was the distance to medical care(38.3%).However,the most important factor for residents with chronic diseases was the type of doctor(34.0%),followed by health insurance reimbursement measures(25.7%).Based on the lowest level combination of service attributes, the willingness of residents to utilize TCM services increased by 53.69%when the distance to medical care changed from 100 minutes to 10 minutes. Conclusion Distance to medical care is an essential factor influencing residents'utilization of TCM services;residents prefer well-known TCM specialists and have a diversified demand for TCM services;preferential policies on health insurance reimbur-sement can promote residents'utilization of TCM services.
