Application effect of ergonomic environmental modification solutions in the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain in the office
Objective To investigate the application effect of ergonomic environmental modification solutions in the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain in the office. Methods From September 2019 to October 2022,70 office workers with chronic lower back pain who sought treatment at the Rehabilitation Department of Chongqing Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine(Beibei Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital of Chongqing)were selected as the study participants.Participants were divided into control group and experimental group using random number table method, with 35 cases in each group. The control group received self-stretching exercises specifi-cally designed for workplace conditions. The experimental group was received tailored environmental modifications by rehabilitation therapists,ad-dressing factors such as working posture, chairs, keyboards and other input devices, monitors, workspace layout, and work accessories in addition on the base of the control group.A comparison was made between the two groups in terms of the clinical efficacy,Oswestry disability index(ODI)and visual analog scale(VAS)score before and 1,3 months after intervention. Results The clinical effect of the experimental group was better than that of the control group(P<0.05).Overall analysis showed that there were significant differences in inter-group,time point, and interaction of ODI and VAS scores between the two groups(P<0.05).Further pairwise comparison:1 and 3 months after intervention,ODI and VAS scores in both groups were lower than those before intervention;at 3 months after intervention,ODI and VAS scores of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Ergonomic environmental modification solutions can effectively relieve the symptoms of low back pain and can help prevent the occurrence of low back pain.
