Effect of symptom management strategies on swelling and pain manage-ment,negative emotions, and quality of life in patients with total knee arthroplasty
Objective To explore the effect of symptom management strategies on swelling and pain management, negative emotions, and quality of life in patients with total knee arthroplasty(TKA).Methods A total of 104 TKA patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical Uni-versity from December 2022 to June 2023 were selected as the study objects. They were divided into control group and experimental group by con-venience sampling method, with 52 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing, and the experimental group was given symp-tom management strategies with four modules as the core.Central swelling of patella score, visual analogue scale(VAS)score, hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS)score, and 36-item short form health survey(SF-36)score were compared between the two groups. Results Overall analy-sis showed that the scores of central swelling of patella,VAS score, and HADS score of the two groups had statistical significances in time,in-ter-group,and interaction comparison(P<0.05).Intra-group comparison:the scores of central swelling of patella in the two groups at discharge date was higher than that before surgery(P<0.05),and the scores of VAS and HADS were compared between the two groups, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Comparison between groups:the scores of central swelling of patella,VAS and HADS of experimental group were lower than those of control group after surgery(P<0.05).The scores of SF-36 of experimental group were higher than those of control group three months after surgery(P<0.05).Conclusion The implementation of symptom management strategies with four modules as the core is helpful to reduce the degree of swelling and pain in TKA patients, relieve negative emotions, and improve the quality of life, which is worthy of popularization and application.
