Research progress on possible targets and molecular mechanisms of fer-roptosis inhibitors in alleviating radiation-induced heart disease
Radiation-induced heart disease(RIHD)is one of the important causes affecting quality of life and long-term prognosis of patients after radiotherapy. At present, pathogenesis research mainly focuses on inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial damage.Ferroptosis is a new form of regulatory cell death characterized by iron homeostasis destruction and lipid peroxidation.Production of reactive oxygen during the process may aggravate progress of RIHD.Therefore, ferroptosis as a target for the treatment of RIHD has potential significance. This article reviews the same pathogenesis and molecular pathways in the latest research progress of ferroptosis and RIHD,clarifies possible targets of ferroptosis in RI-HD,and provides a new idea for prevention and treatment of RIHD.
