Effects of Teach-back health education on mental state, cognitive level of disease knowledge, and compliance behavior in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Objective To investigate the effects of Teach-back health education on mental state, cognitive level of disease knowledge, and compli-ance behavior in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 88 elderly COPD patients diagnosed and treated in the Geriatric Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from December 2021 to May 2023 were divided into two groups by random number table method, with 44 cases in each group.Routine group received routine health education. The intervention group received Teach-back health education. Both groups were followed up for five months after discharge. The mental state of the two groups(hospital anxiety and depression scale-anxiety[HAD-A],hospital anxiety and depression scale-depression(HAD-D)],cognitive level of disease knowledge, and compliance behav-ior changes before and after the intervention were observed. Results Before intervention, there was no significant difference in HAD-A and HAD-D scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After intervention, the scores of HAD-A and HAD-D in the intervention group were lower than before in-tervention,and those in the intervention group were lower than those in the routine group(P<0.05),and there was no statistical significance in the scores of HAD-A and HAD-D in the routine group compared with that before intervention(P>0.05).Before intervention, there was no significant difference in cognitive scores of disease knowledge between the two groups(P>0.05).After intervention, the disease knowledge cognition score of the two groups was higher than before intervention, and that in the intervention group was higher than that in the routine group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before intervention, there were no significant differences in compliance scores between the two groups(P>0.05).The score of compliance behavior in both groups after intervention were higher than before intervention, and that in the intervention group was high-er than that in the routine group(P<0.05).Conclusion The implementation of Teach-back health education in COPD patients showed obvious advantages.
