Study on the practical effect of long-term public study abroad on cultiva-tion of comprehensive ability of clinicians in tertiary hospitals
Objective To study the practical effect of long-term public study abroad on cultivation of talents in hospitals, and to provide scientific basis for the improvement of hospital study abroad cultivation policy and management. Methods Thirty-six clinicians with long-term public study abroad from January 2018 to December 2019 at Beijing Tongren Hospital,Capital Medical University were selected as the abroad group, and 36 clinicians with no study abroad experience were matched using propensity scoring as the control group. The year of the expatriates'departure was used as a benchmark, the differences in scientific research, clinical competence, and teaching achievements between the two groups within four years after their return were compared. Results There was no significant difference in the number of SCI papers published between the two groups(P>0.05);there was significant difference in influence factors of SCI papers published between the two groups(P<0.05);and there was significant dif-ference in JCR partition of SCI papers published between the two groups(P<0.05).The percentage hosting bureau-level subject funds and carry-ing out new technologies and projects of the abroad group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);and there were no significant differences in the hosting provincial-ministerial and national-level subject funds, obtaining patents, and the qualifications of mentors between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Long-term public study abroad is an effective way to improve clini-cians'scientific research and clinical ability. It is more reasonable to take the quality of published articles, the approval of bureau-level projects funds, and carrying out new technologies and projects as short-term evaluation indicators for long-term public study abroad returnees.
