Analysis of risk factors on occurrence of ischemic stroke in youth,mid-dle-aged and elderly
Objective To explore risk factors on occurrence of ischemic stroke in youth,middle-aged and elderly. Methods Inpatient medical record data of first-time confirmed ischemic stroke at Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from 2017 to 2023 were collected. After screening,5 254 cases were finally included, including 339 cases of youth stroke group and 339 healthy individuals in the same period as youth non-stroke group. From 4 915 elderly stroke dataset,300 cases were randomly selected as middle-aged and elderly stroke group, and 300 healthy individuals underwent physical examinations during the same period were selected as middle-aged and elderly non-stroke group.Risk factors and clinical characteristics among different age groups were compared. Results Proportions of smoking habits, drinking habits, hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2,hyperlipidemia,hyperhomocysteinemia,hyperuricemia,coronary heart disease, carotid atherosclerosis with plaque formation, lower limb atherosclerosis with plaque formation, moyamoya disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus in youth stroke group were higher than those in youth non-stroke group(P<0.05).Hypertension,diabetes mellitus type 2,hyperhomocysteinemia,hyperuricemia,coronary heart disease, carotid atherosclerosis with plaque formation and systemic lupus erythematosus were independent risk factors for ischemic stroke in youth(OR>1,P<0.05).Proportions of smoking habit, drinking habit, hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2,hyperlipidemia,hyperhomocysteinemia,coronary heart disease, carotid atherosclerosis with plaque formation, and plaque formation in the lower limbs in middle-aged and elderly stroke group were higher than those in middle-aged and elderly non-stroke group(P<0.05).Drinking habits, hypertension, hyperhomocysteinemia, coronary heart disease and lower limb atherosclerosis with plaque formation were independent risk factors affecting occurrence of ischemic stroke in middle-aged and el-derly(OR>1,P<0.05).Conclusion Identifying risk factors and clinical characteristics of ischemic stroke in youth can provide personalized guid-ance and prevention for different age groups, especially young schemic stroke patients.
