Evaluation of the effectiveness of hazard analysis and critical control points theory in the handover and cleaning of endoscopic instruments
Objective To explore the application effect of workflow based on hazard analysis and critical control points(HACCP)theory in the han-dling and cleaning of endoscopic instruments. Methods The study sample consisted of 200 batches of endoscopic instruments, totaling 6 989 items, received and cleaned by the Central Sterile Supply Department of Fuyang People's Hospital,Anhui Province from January to August 2022.They were divided into two groups based on different handling and cleaning procedures:the control group comprised 3 638 instruments, the observation group comprised 3 351 instruments, the control group was handled and cleaned using conventional methods, and the observation group was incor-porated improvements based on the HACCP theory into the standard handling and cleaning procedures. The quality of instrument cleaning(adeno-sine triphosphate[ATP]detection,return-to-wash rate, work quality[the number of recovered instruments is inconsistent, the instruments are dam-aged,and the two parties are not handed over]),operating room satisfaction, staff disinfection management knowledge, and subjective well-being were compared between the two groups. Results In the observation group, the failure rate of 5x magnification test, the failure rate of ATP test, the rate of return-to-wash,the number of recovered instruments did not match, the instruments were damaged, there was no handover between the two sides, the supply of emergency instruments was untimely and the rate of dissatisfaction in the operating room were lower than those of the control group, and the knowledge acquisition of staff and subjective well-being of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The handover methods and cleaning workflows established by HACCP have shown good applicability and effectiveness in the handling and cleaning of endoscopic instruments, enhancing the quality of instrument cleaning,improv-ing work quality, and increasing operating room satisfaction.
