Research progress on progesterone resistance in the pathogenesis of endometriosis
The growth of ectopic endometrium in endometriosis(EMT)depends on the continuous stimulation of estrogen.Progesterone is often used to control EMT symptoms and delay recurrence due to its inhibitory effect on estrogen proliferation and anti-apoptosis of the endometrium. In clinical treatment, some EMT patients exhibit low or even no response to progesterone preparations in the endometrium, which is a phenomenon of progesterone resistance.Defective expression of progesterone receptor(PR),decreased PR activity, and abnormal PR signaling interfere with progesterone signaling, leading to progesterone resistance. This article summarizes molecular mechanisms related to progesterone resistance caused by PR abnormalities in EMT in recent years, aiming to reverse the phenomenon of progesterone resistance and develop new treatment plans for EMT and its infertility.
