Analysis of the effect of obese Mongolian adolescents with insulin resis-tance on metabolic indicators
Objective To investigate the effect of insulin resistance(IR)on metabolic indicators in obese Mongolian adolescents. Methods A total of 225 students who met the criteria for obesity in three Mongolian middle schools in Ar-Khorchin Banner,Chifeng City,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, from March to April 2023 were selected for the study, and their height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose(FBG),fasting insulin(FINS),and blood lipids were measured, and their body mass index(BMI),homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),fasting triglyceride-glucose(TyG),according to HOMA-IR,the patients were divided into obese with IR group(HOMA-IR≥2.69)and obese without IR group(HOMA-IR<2.69),and the metabolic indices were statistically analyzed between the obese with IR group and the obese without IR group. Results BMI and waist circumference were positively correlated with HOMA-IR,blood pressure, triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),FINS,and TyG(P<0.05),and negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)(P<0.05),and were not correlated with FBG(P>0.05).Diastolic blood pressure,FBG,TG,TC,LDL-C,FINS,and TyG were higher in the obese with IR group than in the obese without IR group, whereas HDL-C was lower than in the obese without IR group(P<0.05).Diastolic blood pressure,FBG,TG,TC,LDL-C,FINS,and TyG were positively correlated with IR(P<0.05),whereas HDL-C was negatively correlated with IR(P<0.05),and systolic blood pressure was not correlated with IR(P>0.05).BMI and TyG were independent risk factors for obesity with IR,with a 0.202-fold increase in the risk of developing obesity with IR for each unit increase in BMI and a 3.283-fold increase in the risk of obesity with IR for each unit increase in TyG.Conclusion BMI,waist circumference, and IR status of obese Mongolian adolescents are correlated with metabolic disorders such as blood glucose, blood pressure, and dyslipidaemia, and BMI and TyG are independent risk factors for obesity with IR.Early identification and detection and improvement of IR status in obese children are important for the prevention of metabolic diseases.
