Research progress on mechanism of action of docosahexaenoic acid in the treatment of epilepsy
Epilepsy is a chronic disease of nervous system,mainly caused by abnormal brain discharges,which can lead to headache,cognitive impairment and abnormal emotional fluctuations in patients,seriously affecting their physical and mental health,and bringing a heavy burden to families and society.At present,there is relatively little research on specific pathogenesis of epilepsy,and the effectiveness of drugs for treating epilepsy is limited,which can also produce certain side effects.Therefore,it is necessary to search for more safe and effective natural products to prevent and treat epilepsy.Docosahexaenoic acid is an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid for human body,mainly derived from marine organisms.It has multiple biological functions such as providing energy,affecting inflammatory responses,immune responses and protecting nerves.This article mainly reviews research on the treatment of epilepsy with docosahexaenoic acid through various pathways such as inhibiting cell apoptosis,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects,providing reference for new ideas in epilepsy treatment.
