Discussion on the basic stress characteristics of high neurotic population based on cortisol arousal response
Objective To explore the characteristics of basic stress in high neurotic population from the perspective of cortisol arousal response. Methods Fifty healthy female subjects from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were recruited from September to November 2014.Based on the concept of neurotic personality in psychology, the subjects were divided into high neuroticism group(28 people)and low neuroticism group(22 people). The physical and mental health performance of the subjects were analyzed by Beck anxiety inventory,Beck depression inventory, symptom checklist 90,Eysenck personality questionnaire, and health questionnaire at the time of enrollment, and then cortisol arousal response experiment was conducted in the middle and late menstrual luteum of the subjects to explore the differences and similarities in basic cortisol levels and stress changes between the two groups. Results The scores of Beck anxiety scale and Beck depression scale in high neuroticism group were higher than those in low neuroticism group, and the scores of Eysenck personality questionnaire internal and external tendency subscale were lower than those in low neuroticism group(P<0.05).The scores of symptom checklist 90 in high neuroticism group were higher than those in low neuroticism group(P<0.05).The frequency of sighing, cold fear, dry mouth, fatigue, appetite change, and whole body pain in high neuroticism group was higher than that in low neuroticism group(P<0.05).The results of simple effect test at different measuring time points showed that the simple effect at different measuring time points in the low neuroticism group was significant(P<0.05).Multiple comparisons showed that the concentration of cortisol 0 min immediately after waking up in the low neuroticism group was lower than 30,45,60 min after waking up in the morning(P<0.05).The simple effect was not significant at different time points in the high neuroticism group(P>0.05).The simple effect test results of different groups showed that the simple effect of 0 min immediately after waking up,45 min after waking up in the morning and 60 min after waking up in the morning was significant(P<0.05).The concentration of cortisol in the high neuroticism group was higher than that in the low neuroticism group at 0 min after waking up,and the concentration of cortisol in the high neuroticism group was lower than that in the low neuroticism group at 45 and 60 min after waking up in the morning(P<0.05).Conclusion People with high neuroticism have the characteristics of high level of basic stress and weakened stress change.
