Research progress on evolution of foam cell and its relationship with breast diseases
Foam cell is derived from the transformation of macrophages that have ingested lipids. The formation of foam cell involves excessive absorption of lipoproteins, enhanced cholesterol esterification, and hindered cholesterol clearance, while its degradation depends on multiple efflux receptors and cholesterol reversal pathways. The role of foam cell in cardiovascular disease has been widely studied, but it is correlated with breast disease. This article reviews formation, degradation process and influencing factors of foam cells, and discusses their significance in pathological changes of breast diseases, and provides a new perspective for subsequent targeted regulation of cell metabolism in diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
