Discussion on theoretical origin and neurobiological mechanism of acupuncture at thirteen ghost points
Thirteen ghost points are first recorded in Beiji Qianjin Yao Fang of Sun Simiao in Tang Dynasty,which is used to treat mania known as"ghost disease".Later generation,it has become an empirical acupoint selection in the treatment of various emotional diseases.Acupuncture at thirteen ghost points reflects recuperation and acupuncture and moxibustion academic thought of Sun Simiao,which include"smoothing twelve meridians","yin and yang principle-based medicine","harmonizing internal organs",and"preserving steady spirit".At present,it has been confirmed that acupuncture at thirteen ghost points can effectively treat anxiety disorder,depression disorder,insomnia,post-stroke dysfunction,and other diseases through neurobiological mechanisms,but systematic summary of related mechanisms is rarely reported.This paper focuses on theoretical origin of thirteen ghost points as well as neurobiological mechanisms of its intervention in diseases,in order to provide ideas for modern application of thirteen ghost points.
