Research progress on mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of traumatic brain injury
Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is a global public health challenge with a high incidence rate, mortality rate, and disability rate.In recent years, acupuncture and moxibustion has been widely used in clinical treatment of TBI due to its unique efficacy, but there is relatively little discussion on its mechanism of action. This article reviews relevant research findings of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of TBI in the past five years, and finds that acupuncture and moxibustion can improve clinical symptoms of TBI through multiple targets such as promoting neural repair and regeneration,anti-inflammation,regulating cell apoptosis, cell autophagy, synaptic plasticity, and cellular energy metabolism. However, there is still a lack of systematic and in-depth high-quality research.Future research should focus on hot topics such as blood-brain barrier protection and brain-gut axis to explore the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion, providing scientific evidence for clarifying the potential role of acupuncture in the treatment of TBI.
