Chain mediating effect of self-rated health and sleep duration between pain and depression in middle-aged women
Objective To explore the chain mediating effect of self-rated health and sleep duration on pain and depression in middle-aged women. Methods The 2020 data of China health and retirement longitudinal survey released publicly in November 2023 were adopted.According to the"basic information"section of the questionnaire, the age, gender, and education level of middle-aged women aged 45-59 were collected;the"Health and functioning"section collected information about self-rated health, depression, pain levels, and sleep duration.Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to examine the correlation of pain,self-rated health status, depression, and sleep duration in middle-aged women, and Bootstrap method was used to verify the mediating effect. Results The scores of depression rating was 8.00(5.00)points,self-rated health score was 3.00(1.00)points,sleep time was 6.00(2.00)hours,and pain score was 2.00(2.00)points of 3 270 middle-aged women.A total of 1 345 middle-aged women had depression, the detection rate was 41.13%.There were significant differences in age, education level, residence, marital status,self-rated health status, sleep time, satisfaction with life, relationship with children, and pain degree between depressed and non-depressed middle-aged women(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between pain and depression in middle-aged women(rs>0,P<0.05);sleep duration was negatively correlated with depression and pain(rs<0,P<0.05);self-rated health was negatively correlated with depression and pain(rs<0,P<0.05),and positively correlated with sleep duration(rs>0,P<0.05).Self-rated health and sleep duration played a chain mediating role in depression and pain, and the mediating effect accounted for 7.66%of the total effect. Conclusion Self-rated health and sleep duration exhibit a chain mediating effect on pain and depression in middle-aged women. In the future, interventions targeting self-rated health and sleep duration should be considered to reduce the incidence of depression in this population.
