Objective To understand the psychological experience and feelings of family members of ICU patients to the medical staffs,and provide reference for the formulation of intervention measures.Methods The phenomenological research method was used to conduct in-depth interviews with the family members of 9 ICU patients admitted to a grade A tertiary general hospital in Zhejiang Province from September 2022 to February 2023,and the interview contents were analyzed by Colaizzi method.Results The psychological experience of ICU patients'family members on disease disclosure by medical staffs could be summarized into four themes:difficult to understand medical professional terms,disease disclosure was more important than the result and less important than the process,the pressure of medical decision-making and lack of effective coping styles.Conclusion Family members of ICU patients have many needs and problems in two-way communication,empathetic support,and shared decision-making.Medical staffs should improve the attention of family members of patients,do a good job of assessment and response,and promote doctor-patient communication.
