Objective To analyze the reasons for the retraction of medical journal papers due to the non-standard use of pictures and other related research integrity issues,and put forward corresponding preventive measures and suggestions.Methods The PubMed literature database in the biomedical field was searched and counted for the articles retracted due to the improper use of pictures from July 1,2022 to December 31,2022,and the specific reasons were analyzed.Results A total of 549 articles were retracted due to improper use of pictures.Among them,plagiarism accounted for 67.58％,image tamper and forgery accounted for 13.30％and 11.48％respectively,and other reasons accounted for 7.64％.Conclusion Improper use of pictures is a major type of scientific research misconduct,and it is also an important reason for the retraction of journal papers after publication.It is necessary to break the"five only",strengthen the publicity of animal ethical principles,adopt software to check the images before submitting the manuscripts,improve the original records of scientific research and the preservation of data and pictures.
