In Mandarin,"Num-Cl-NP"as a formally indefinite phrase can be used as an anaphor.Based on the specific pragmatic functions,"Num-Cl-NP"anaphors can be divided into three subcategories:general anaphora,connotation-salient anaphora and quantity-salient anaphora. With different pragmatic functions, they show differences in constituents,syntac-tic positions and contexts. These differences among them suggest that they hold two types of referential properties-definiteness and indefiniteness, and accordingly realize the co-reference with their antecedents in different ways.Definite"Num-Cl-NP"anaphors include general anaphors and some connotation-salient anaphors, and the hearer can build a co-reference re-lation between them and their antecedents by matching information about the quantity and the category. In contrast,indefinite"Num-Cl-NP"anaphors include other connotation-sali-ent anaphors and quantity-salient anaphors, and the referents are disguised as new informa-tion in speech,so that the co-reference relation between"Num-Cl-NPs"and their anteced-ents is of conversational implicature, which needs the hearer to reason it out through prag-matic information.
