The National Identity of the Southwest Frontier in the Writing of Local Chronicles:Taking the Compilation of the Three"Chronicles of the White Salt Well"in the Qing Dynasty as the Research Object
The writing of local chronicles in the frontier is an important way to shape the social and historical memory of the frontier and construct political and cultural identity.In the compilation of the three"Chronicles of the White Salt Well"of Yongzheng,Qianlong and Guangxu,the editors emphasized the relationship between the salt industry in White Well and the history of the central dynasty,wealth,and frontier order,highlighting the connection between the locality and the country.They used Confucian etiquette to strengthen the position of the mainstream values of the dynastic state in the hearts of the frontier people.At the same time,the narrative method of diluting Yi-xia and integrating beliefs is used to reshape local cultural consciousness,and the complex and diverse culture and beliefs of White Salt Well area are incorporated into the narrative of the unified dynasty.The extensive compilation of salt well chronicles in Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty was not only an important cultural means and method of the dynastic state in governing the frontier,but also a reflection of the political and cultural construction of the Qing Dynasty in the frontier society.
