The Research on the Salt Production Process in Aobo Tu
This article presents a preliminary study of the salt production process described in salt-making classic Aobo Tu of Yuan Dynasty.The study organizes and analyzes four key stages of the process:the construction of the salt-making site,the establishment of the salt flats,the brine soaking and the salt boiling.Research indicates that the salt production techniques recorded in Aobo Tu during the Song and Yuan dynasties had reached a relatively sophisticated stage,with the production of sea salt becoming mature and specialized.The sea salt industry had evolved into an intensive and factory-based sector driven predominantly by government initiatives.As the earliest existing and most systematically detailed ancient salt-making classic in China,Aobo Tu holds irreplaceable academic value.It is essential for scholars of salt industry history and coastal salt archaeology to give full attention to this work.
