The Brief Report on the Excavation of the Danning Salt Field Site in Wuxi,Chongqing
In the summer and autumn of 2018,the Chongqing Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology,in collaboration with the Wuxi Cultural Heritage Administration,conducted an archaeological investigation and excavation at the Danning Salt Field Site in Wuxi.The investigation revealed 80 various types of remains and the excavation uncovered three large-scale salt production workshops,as well as over 70 types of salt production facilities,including salt workshops,salt boiling furnaces,drying furnaces,brine pools,ash pits and drainage ditches.These archaeological findings show the production layout centered around salt furnaces in the northeastern region of Chongqing and reveal the salt production processes from the Qing Dynasty to modern times at the Danning Salt Field.This research holds significant importance for establishing and enhancing the history of salt well technology development in China.
