The Huanhou Palace in Ziliujing,also known as the Zhang Ye Temple or Zhang Fei Temple,serves as a guild hall and is a significant subject for exploring social governance methods in the Furong Salt Field during the Qing Dynasty.Established during the Qianlong period in Qing Dynasty,the Huanhou Palace was funded through collective contributions from butchers in the Furong Salt Field.It not only served as a spiritual refuge for the butchers to pay homage to their deity but also became a designated venue for mutual assistance among peers,social gatherings,apprenticeship and resolving disputes both within and outside the industry.Zhang Fei,a butcher by profession,is revered as a loyal and courageous official.His identity,image and spirit resonate with the multifaceted needs of the butchers,grant him a sacred status as a protector of the butchering industry.By leveraging the industry deity Zhang Fei,the Huanhou Palace facilitated governance and coordination of the butchering industry in the Furong Salt Field,becoming a unique method of social governance for the lower classes during the Qing Dynasty.
