霍克思《楚辞》译本中本草学术语的深度翻译研究

《楚辞》是中国最伟大的文化典籍之一,其中许多本草学术语有着丰富的寓意,体现了深厚的中国传统文化.在众多《楚辞》英译本中,大卫·霍克斯的译本以其丰富的信息和尾注所提供的历史文化背景,为中国古代典籍和本草学术语的(再)翻译提供了典范性的参考.他对原文中本草学术语的含义作了简明的解释,如指代人物、美德或成就等.本文建议在《楚辞》的深度翻译中增加本草的药用价值信息,帮助读者更好地理解译文,促进中国本草文化的传播,并为其他草药研究提供更多参考.
Abstract
The Chu ci is one of the greatest cultural classics in both China and the world, and there are many herbalogical terminologies in the work, reflecting rich allegorical meanings and profound traditional Chinese culture. Among several excellent English translation versions of it, David Hawkes' translation provides an exemplary reference for (re)translation of ancient Chinese classics and herbalogical terminologies with its abundant information and historico-cultural context provided in the endnotes. He made a brief and clear explanation of the herbal terms in the source text, related to their allegorical usages which represent persons, virtues or accomplishments, and the translator's own interpretation. It is suggested that more information about the medical value of the herbs should be added to the in-text or out-of-text thick translation of the Chu ci so as to promote the intercultural communication of Chinese herbal culture, provide more reference for other herbalogical studies and help the target readers better understand the target text.
