The(ir)realistic Relevance,Functional Differences and Related Thinking of the pre-Qin(先秦)Patient-preposing Sentence
Regarding the(ir)realistic attribute of the patient-preposing sentence, there are currently two completely different views:relevance to realis and relevance to irrealis. This article takes the pre-Qin(先秦)subject-preposition sentence as the object of investigation, and finds that the attribute actually depends on the register:in the narrative, the patient-preposing sentence has an obvious realis tendency;while in the argumentative discourse, the irrealis relevance is significant.Different attribute associations correspond to different communicative functions of patient-preposing sentence:realis, expressive function;and irrealis, comment function. This phenomenon reveals the register differences of the general grammatical format, and suggests the in-depth perspective of the register grammar research.
