Talking about Wei(唯)and Wei(惟)——A Discussion on the Choice between Variant Words Weiyi(唯一)and Weiyi(惟一)
In modem Chinese,Weiyi(唯一)and Weiyi(惟一)are a very special group of variant words.This article analyzes the original meanings of Wei(唯)and Wei(惟),as well as the usage of Wei(唯)and Wei(惟)in ancient Chinese classics.It briefly explains the usage of the two forms of words Weiyi(唯一)and Weiyi(惟一)in modem Chinese,and finally points out that in modem Chinese,the form Weiyi(唯一)should replace Weiyi(惟一),and become the universal form of this word.
