Discriminate on Several Words in Biographical Works of Du Guang-ting(杜光庭)in the Former Shu(前蜀)Dynasty
Du Guang-ting(杜光庭),a Taoist scholar in the former Shu(前蜀)dynasty,wrote a large number of biographical works,whose expressions can better reflect the true appearance of the language of the late Tang(唐)and five dynasties,and are valuable corpus for the study of modem Chinese.This paper selects 6 words from the works and analyzes their meanings,thinking of a Kanzi(龛子)as an appliance for holding people or things,Xugong(煦工)and Xuli(煦力)refer to hired labor,Gongxu(功煦)refers to the person who sells labor,Li(力)refers to financial resources and wealth,and Qingguo(轻果)refers to reckless.This paper makes reference to the definitions of the Chinese Dictionary(汉语大词典)and the Modern Chinese Dictionary(近代汉语词典)",and points out their omissions in terms of receiving words,paraphrasing and citing,and reveals the value of Taoist biographies to the compilation of dictionaries.
