A Brief Exploration of the Idioms and Proverbs in Morrison's A Dictionary of the Chinese Language
As a European missionary who came to China,Morrison was not bound by the traditional Chinese ideas,and focused on principles of practicality,education and enlightenment.A Dictionary of the Chinese Language which he complied includes not only words,but also idioms and proverbs,as well as revealing the features of Chinese characters linking words and phrases to some extent.From it,we can see the development of spoken language to written language,and it can also be seen the evolution of written language in spoken language,showing unique achievements in lexicography and Chinese language research.
