The 9th century work on music theory,Musica Enchiriadis(Handbook of Music),is the first time in the current visible literature to show the original form of polyphonic"organum"in music, also as a bridge connecting the music theory of ancient Greece, the theory of Boethius in the early Middle Ages and Guido's musical theory in the 11th century. The study of this work can correct many stereotyped,one-sided or wrong understandings of medieval music theory and even medieval music itself, and is of great significance to a complete and accurate understanding of the early western music history.
