Association Between Serum 3-Carboxy-4-Methyl-5-Propyl-2-Furanpropanoic Acid ( CMPF) and Insulin Resistance in Patients with Abnormal Glucose Metabolism
Objective To analyze the relationship between serum 3-carboxy-4-methyl-5-propyl-2-furanpropanoic acid ( CMPF) and insulin resistance in patients with different glucose metabolism. Methods The established diabetes screening database of permanent residents in Shanghai was selected for analysis. The newly diagnosed T2DM patients ( T2DM group),residents with normal glucose tolerance ( NGT group) and those with impaired glucose regulation ( IGR group) were includ-ed according to gender, age, and body mass index,100 in each group.Serum CMPF was determined by enzyme-linked im-munosorbent assay. The relationship between CMPF and insulin resistance was analyzed using statistical methods. Results CMPF increased gradually in the NGT group,IGR group, and T2DM group.Homeostasis model assessment of insulin re-sistance index ( HOMA-IR) in the T2DM and IGR groups was higher than that in the NGT group.Homeostasis model as-sessment of beta-cell function ( HOMA-β),first-phase insulin secretion,second-phase insulin secretion,DI30,and DI120 decreased successively in the three groups ( all P<0.001) .Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum CMPF was positively correlated with HOMA-IR ( P<0.05),and negatively correlated with HOMA-β,first-phase insulin secretion, and DI30 ( P<0.05) .The binary logistic regression revealed that serum CMPF was associated with the progressive exacerba-tion of insulin resistance after adjusting for gender, age, and body mass index[OR=2.743 (1.553,4.846),P<0.001].Conclusion CMPF differed in people with different glucose metabolism. It increased in people with abnormal glucose me-tabolism and was positively correlated with insulin resistance. However, further research is needed to clarify the potential causal link.
