Effect of Different Treatment Regimens on Clinical Symptoms and Mental Health of Elderly Cancer Patients in Shiyan Area
Objective To investigate the impact of radiotherapy,chemotherapy,or radiochemotherapy on relevant clinical symptoms and mental health of elderly cancer patients during the treatment.Methods Ninety elderly cancer patients in the Shiyan area who were diagnosed and treated at the Department of Oncology of the Renmin Hospital,Hubei University of Medicine from January 2023 to August 2023 were selected.The WHO Five Well-being Index,Distress Thermometer,Karnofsky Performance Status Scale,Cancer-related Symptom Scale,and Self-rating Depression Scale were used to ana-lyze the changes in the symptoms and psychological status of patients before and after treatment with different treatment regi-mens.Results The total symptom score of the three treatment measures ( radiotherapy,chemotherapy,and radiochemother-apy) at the first visit showed significant differences ( P<0.05),with the symptom scores in the following order:radioche-motherapy>radiotherapy>chemotherapy.The total symptom score of all three groups decreased at the second visit,and the differences were significant ( P<0.05),with the symptom scores in the following order:radiochemotherapy>radiotherapy>chemotherapy.In the radiochemotherapy group,the symptoms,SDS scores,and Distress Thermometer scores all decreased after treatment,and the differences before and after treatment were distinct ( P<0.05) .Conclusion Radiochemotherapy can significantly improve the physical symptoms,depression,and psychological distress of elderly cancer patients.
