Further discussion on the origin of watermelon in China and related issues like Liao Taizu's western expedition:involving the issues raised by Mr.Liu Qizhen,a watermelon history researcher
The term"Huihe"appears three times in the Xian Lu Ji by Hu Qiao in the Five Dynasties, all of which come from the introduction of the Khitan people detained in Fuzhou(now the Horqin Left Rear Banner of Tongliao City,Inner Mongolia). They refer to the Mobei Huihu, not the Gaochang Huihu in the western re-gions.The"Futu City"conquered by Liao Taizu in his western expedition is a military fortress located in the present-day Zizhou County,Yulin City,Shaanxi Province, not the"Khan Futu City"in Tingzhou of the Northern Xinjiang. This information further indicates that"Khitan defeated Huihe and obtained the seeds"mentioned in the Xian Lu Ji refers to the acquisition of watermelons from the Mobei Huihu Yazhang area. The origin of watermelon in China was the hinterland of the Mongolian Plateau in the Mobei, and was indirectly in-troduced from the western regions through the Mobei Huihu.Mr.Liu Qizhen,a watermelon history researc-her,has persistently adhered to the traditional view and deliberately avoided my argument, but his related crit-icism and denial cannot shake my findings. The evidence I have presented above strengthens my conclusions.
