Is the Academic Literacy of Overseas Returnee Teachers Superior to That of Teachers Cultivated at Home?——Based on the survey of faculty in 35 universities undergoing"Double First-Class"construction
There is presently various doubt about the academic literacy of overseas returnee university teachers.A survey of the faculty in 35 universities undergoing the"Double First-Class"construction shows that the returnees are significantly superior in academic devotion, disciplinary knowledge and research ability to their counterpart cultivated at home.Overseas mobility has greatly improved the academic literacy of university faculty, and it plays more important a role in promoting disciplinary knowledge and research ability than in enhancing academic devotion. The contribution of different types of overseas experiences to improving academic literacy is ranked as follows:overseas doctoral training and working experience, overseas doctoral study experience, and overseas working experience.Although the quality of talent cultivating in domestic academic institutions has improved,it still lags behind the overseas academic institutions.Facing the post epidemic and anti-globalization challenges,on one hand,Chinese universities need to be alert to the potential risks of bias for overseas re-turnees and strive to improve the ability of domestic universities in independently cultivating top academic talents. On another hand, they need to continue to open up,introduce first-class international talents, and build a strong state of higher education.
