Mental health concerns the personal well-beings of doctoral students and the quali-ty of innovative talents training,and it is urgent to investigate the influencing factors of doc-toral students'mental health crisis.The analysis of 6512 questionnaires conducted by Nature in 2019 on doctoral students over the world shows that the improvement of doctoral study experience can help the doctoral candidates with academic motivation reduce the rate of their suffering from mental health crisis,that doctoral students'satisfaction with work-life bal-ance and supervisory relationship is negatively correlated with the risk mental health crisis,and that female doctoral students are conspicuously more likely to suffer from mental health crisis,which can only be eased with satisfactory cooperation and psychological support from supervisors.In order to improve the mental health of doctoral students,institutions should adopt effective ways of selection in their admittance system and cultivate doctoral students'interests in research.They should pay heed to holding the balance between research and life.The match between doctoral students and supervisors can be improved through team supervi-sion and laboratory rotations system.Sufficient consideration should be taken into the men-tal health of female doctoral students.
