Yang Wanli,a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty,has over 40 poems related to the image,taste,and life of children.The playful characteristics presented in these poems reflect Yang Wanli's own views on children,i.e.,paying attention to childlike innocence by re-examining the nature of children;protecting childlike innocence by actively exploring the value of children's labor;and calling for childlike innocence by affirming the childlike way of thinking,the three constituting a progressive relationship.Yang Wanli's view on children not only surpassed that of the contemporary literati,but also had a positive and far-reaching impact on the development of China's future views on children.
