Adenoid cystic carcinoma of breast:clinicopathological features and intraoperative frozen diagnosis
Objective To study the clinicopathological features and intraoperative frozen diagnosis of adenoid cystic carcinoma(ACC)of the breast. Methods Two breast ACC patients were retrospectively analyzed by the clinical data, pathological characteristics and intraoperative frozen diagnosis. Results Two breast ACC patients as palpable mass of the breast, there was no history of salivary gland diseases.Intraoperative frozen diagnosis was at least carcinoma in situ and postoperative paraffin sections were combined with immunohistochemical staining to support ACC.Tumor cells of two patients were negative for ER,PR,and HER2.Modified radical breast surgery and breast conserving surgery were performed and sentinel lymph node biopsy was negative. Both patients were followed up for 17-74 months and had no recurrence or metastasis. Conclusion Breast ACC is mostly triple negative breast cancer with low lymph node metastasis rate and better prognosis.Although intraoperative frozen diagnosis is not easy to identify the characteristic structures of adenoid cystic carcinoma of breast, such as pseudo-glandular structures and coexisting adenular epithelium,we can identify the malignant characteristics of adenoid cystic carcinoma, such as atypia, invasive growth and so on,which provide an important reference for the decision of the surgical plan.
