Clinicopathological features of pituitary neuroendocrine tumor/pituitary adenoma in Tibetan population in Tibet
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features of PitNET/PA cases in Tibetan population in Tibet. Methods A total of 38 cases of Tibetan pituitary neuroendocrine tumor/pituitary adenoma(PitNET/PA)were collected from October 2013 to March 2021 in the Department of Pathology,People's Hospital of Tibet Autonomous Region. The clinical and pathological data were collected, and immunohistochemical staining of pituitary transcription factors and pituitary hormones was performed to observe the clinicopathological correlation. Results The age of the patients ranged from 22 to 73 years, and the ratio of male to female was 10∶9.Preoperative imaging data showed 7 cases(18.42%)of giant tumors,31 cases(81.58%)of large tumors, and no small tumors.According to the latest WHO classification, there were 13 cases of PIT-1 lineage tumor,2 cases of T-PIT lineage tumor,20 cases of SF-1 lineage tumor, and 3 cases of PitNETs with no distinct cell lineage.Among them,8 cases(21.05%)were high-risk tumors.Ten cases(26.32%)had tumor recurrence after operation. Conclusion Tibetan patients with PitNET/PA in Tibet have higher high-risk types, giant tumors and postoperative recurrence rates, suggesting that more active intervention measures are needed for the prognosis of tumors in Tibetan patients in plateau areas.
