Expression of ODF1 in gastrointestinal tract neuroendocrine neoplasms and its clinical significance
Objective To investigate the expression of outer dense fiber of sperm tails 1(ODF1)in gastrointestinal tract neuroendocrine neoplasms(NEN)and its relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis. Methods A total of 254 NEN samples, including 168 neuroendocrine tumours(NET)and 86 neuroendocrine carcinomas(NEC)were collected from January 2008 to December 2021,ODF1 expression in the above tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. The relationship between their expression and clinicopathological features and prognosis was analyzed. Results Immunohistochemical staining showed that the expression of ODF1 were all diffuse positive in 168 NETs samples, but the positive rate of ODF1 in 86 NEC was 24.4%and the staining pattern were focally positive. The expression difference of ODF1 in gastrointestinal NET and NEC was statistically significant(P<0.05).The expression of ODF1 decreased with the increase of NEN grade,T stage, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage(P<0.05).The expression of ODF1 was not related to gender and age(P>0.05).Kaplan-Meier and univariate analysis showed that the expression of ODF1 was related to better prognosis in patients with NEC(P<0.05).Cox multivariate analysis showed that ODF1 expression was not the independent factor in patients with NEC.Conclusion ODF1 is highly expressed in gastrointestinal NETs and less so in NEC.ODF1 expression decreases with higher grading of NEN,increased T-stage,lymph node metastasis and TNM stage, with low expression suggesting poor prognosis.
