Clinicopathologic features of low-grade oncocytic tumor of the kidney
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features and immunohistochemical expression of low-grade oncocytic tumor of the kidney(LOT).Methods The clinical, histomorphological, immunophenotypic, and follow-up data of five cases(six tumors)of LOT diagnosed in the Department of Pathology,Beijing Friendship Hospital,Capital Medical University from June 2021 to July 2023 were summarized. Results The five patients were 1 male and 4 females. The tumors were well-demarcated and consisted of compact small nests.Areas with edematous stroma and hemorrhage were commonly seen. The tumors exhibited uniform cytology with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm.Cell nuclei featured a uniform, rounded or oval shape, with perinuclear halos evident in some areas. The majority of tumors(5/6)were classified as grade 2 by the WHO/International Society for Urological Pathology(ISUP),while one tumor was classified as grade 3.All tumors showed a positive immunophenotype for CK7 and negative for CD 117,and five tumors were GATA3 positive. The Ki-67 index ranged from 1%to 3%.Conclusion LOT is a tumor with a distinctive morphology and immunophenotype that should be recognized by pathologists to prevent misdiagnosing it as other eosinophilic tumor.
