Expression of TRPS1 in primary extramammary Paget disease and its diagnostic value
Objective To study the expression of TRPS1 in primary extramammary Paget disease(EMPD),and to explore the value of TRPS1 in the diagnosis of primary EMPD.Methods Immunohistochemical EnVision method was used to de-tect the expression of TRPS1 in 39 cases of primary EMPD,6 cases of secondary EMPD,15 cases of melanoma and 11 cases of squamous cell carcinoma in situ diagnosed at the Department of Pathology of Suqian First Hospital from July 2015 to December 2023.Results Among the 39 patients with primary EMPD,there were 29 males and 10 females aged from 53 to 81 years(average age 68 years, median age 71 years).Among the 6 cases of secondary EMPD,there were 4 males and 2 females aged from 45 to 76 years(average age 59 years, median age 62.5 years).Of the 39 primary EMPD cases,35(35/39)showed strong and diffuse nuclear expression of TRPS1,with a positive rate of 89.7%,and the four negative cases were located in the perianal area;whereas, none of the 6 secondary EMPD cases showed any staining.TRPS1 was also neg-ative in 15 cases of melanoma and showed diffuse strong positivity in 90.9%(10/11)of squamous cell carcinoma in situ. The sensitivity and specificity of TRPS1 for the diagnosis of primary EMPD in our cases were 89.7%and 68.8%,respec-tively.Conclusions The expression of TRPS1 has a high sensitivity in primary EMPD.TRPS1 may be useful to distinguish primary EMPD from secondary EMPD and melanoma, but its utility is limited in distinguishing it from squamous cell carci-noma in situ.
