Expression of PCK1 and PCK2 in colorectal cancer and their significance
Objective To investigate the frequency and prognostic role of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase(PCK)in Chinese patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).Methods Clinicopathological and survival information from 308 patients with primary CRC were reviewed and recorded.PCK1 and PCK2 expression in CRC and adjacent normal tissues was ana-lyzed by immunohistochemistry(IHC).The relationship between PCK1 and PCK2 expression and clinicopathological char-acteristics and outcomes were determined. Results The expression level of PCK1 and PCK2 in CRC tissues was signifi-cantly lower than that in adjacent normal tissues.Low PCK1 and PCK2 expression were detected in 84.09%(259/308)and 76.30%(235/308)patients with CRC,respectively. The expression of PCK1 was significantly correlated with tumor invasion(T stage)(P=0.001)and neurovascular infiltration(P=0.012).PCK2 expression was significantly correlated with age(P=0.035),TNM stage(P=0.001),lymph node metastasis(P=0.001)and tumor invasion(T stage)(P=0.005).PCK1 and PCK2 expression was not prognostic for disease-free survival and overall survival. Conclusion PCK1 and PCK2 was lowly expressied in CRC tissues and may be participated in the progress of CRC.Therefore,PCK1 and PCK2 might be po-tential targets for CRC treatment.
