Lighting fixtures can alter aerodynamic shape of stay cables and may induce galloping phenomena.Here,to study effects of different lighting fixtures on galloping performance of stay cables,a segment model for low-frequency suspension system was developed based on stay cables of a certain long-span cable-stayed bridge.Wind tunnel tests were conducted on the segment model for vibration measuring,and galloping performances of stay cables installing 3 types of lighting fixtures including hoop type,fitting type and detachable type,respectively were studied under wind attack angles of 0°-180°.Effects of additional damping on galloping critical wind speed of stay cables installing lighting fixtures were analyzed.The study results showed that lighting fixture type and cable diameter are important factors affecting galloping performance of stay cable;stay cable installing hoop type lighting fixture has no galloping phenomenon,but both stay cable installing fitting type lighting fixture and stay cable installing detachable type lighting fixture have galloping under low wind speeds to exhibit these 2 types of lighting fixtures being able to reduce the galloping stability of stay cable;when installing fitting type lighting fixtures,the adverse wind attack angle of stay cable with diameter of 200 mm is 160°,while the adverse wind attack angles of stay cable with diameter of 260 mm are 30° and 150°;when installing detachable type lighting fixtures,the unfavorable wind attack angle of stay cable with diameter of 200 mm is 20°,while stay cable with diameter of 260 mm has no galloping phenomenon;increasing damping can increase galloping critical wind speed of stay cable;the study results can provide important reference for studying galloping performance and vibration reduction control of stay cables installing lighting fixtures.
